The Role Of Augment Reality To Inform Audiences.

In hopes to keep up with the rapid change of technology - BBC reached out to the UX Masters students at the University of Central Lancashire, to explore a unique approach in provide learning resources using AR.

Deliverables

  1. Create an AR learning resource Key Stage 2 History with clear historical narratives and term usage.

  2. Establish connections, contrasts, and trends across historical periods.

  3. Consider a variety of users and learning abilities when creating the prototype.


Research and Analyse

I evaluated history resources targeted for 8-10-year-olds to consider how AR could enhance learning by understanding learning approaches and academic requirements.

I then brainstormed a variety of AR concepts and decided to explore 3 different areas:

  • Comparing different environments

  • Treasure hunt for relics

  • Coin Collector

Personas

Created personas from client-provided demographics, guiding the entire product development process. These influenced features like:

  • A relatable main character in a narrative scenario.

  • Quick and user-friendly game-like elements.

    Enjoyable AR-based word-learning games that complemented classroom lessons.

Develop - From Research to Creation

In the low-fidelity stage, I sketched ideas and established user flows, ensuring alignment with key objectives and personas' features.

In the high-fidelity stage, I added interactive elements such as falling coins, different levels, and adapted the design for both younger and older users. I also employed various software tools, including Eyejack, to enhance the user experience and implement my idea in AR.

Deliver

The next steps would be to test the prototype in the classroom and at home with the target audience, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools were closed and it was difficult to progress this project further. I did present my ideas to teachers and the BBC for feedback.
